2010 FALL EVENT

Our annual Fall Event is the Foundation's primary fund-raising event. Each year we gather for dinner with our friends, supporters, and members of the law enforcement community to celebrate our successes and raise money for the County's law enforcement agencies. From the spirited bidding at our cocktail auction, to the live music and dancing that lasts late into the night, the Fall Event proves every year that raising money for a good cause can be both entertaining and rewarding. Please plan to join us on September 25, 2010. See details.

2009 FALL EVENT

The 2009 dinner honored SDCLEF's first ever Citizen of the Year, Mary Walsh of the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Mary has been the Sheriff's "right-hand" woman as long as most of us can remember, and she has worked tirelessly for both the Foundation and the County law enforcement community in general. In addition to honoring Mary, we also celebrated the end of an era, as Sheriff Bill Kolender and Chief Rick Emerson ended their long and storied careers with their respective departments. Both the Sheriff and Chief Emerson have been longtime supporters of SDCLEF, and they will be sorely missed. Thanks for joining us to thank Mary for her years and years of dedicated service to the County's law enforcement community, and to send the Sheriff and Chief Emerson off with a bang. Thanks for joining us on September 12, 2009 for a night of great auction items, a wonderful dinner, and dancing to the music of the world-famous Cat-illacs.

Thank You: We are proud to recognize the following sponsors and donors from the 2009 Event. The SDCLEF thanks them for their generosity. Please support them.

Tour of the San Diego County Medical Examiner Facility

On July 15, 2010, the Foundation arranged for a tour of the new, multi-million dollar San Diego County Medical Examiner Facility located at 5570 Overland Avenue.

The tour was conducted by the Medical Examiner, Dr. Glenn Wagner, and covered all aspects of the state-of-the-art building. Dr. Wagner's presentation was very interesting and enlightening.

Tour of the San Diego County Regional Police Academy
on April 22, 2010

On April 22, 2010, members of the SDCLEF and their guests were given a tour of the San Diego County Regional Police Academy. The multi-venues included a SED/SWAT exhibit, Force Options Simulation, Defensive Tactics, Less Lethal Weapons demonstration and Driving Simulator.

The tour was arranged by Sgt. Mark Ryan, and conducted by Cpl. Ken Montoya. Both officers are with the San Diego County Sheriff's Department.

Tour of the Harbor Police Facility on July 16, 2009

On July 16, 2009, members of the SDCLEF and their guests were given an excellent tour of the San Diego Harbor Police facility. The tour was arranged by Chief Kirk Sanfilippo and conducted by Captain Don Claypool.

The event began with a tour of the headquarters building and a brief overview of the department by a representative of the Port Commission. The department has 172 employees with 145 sworn officers, and an annual budget of $29.3 million dollars. The function of the department is to provide policing, marine firefighting and rescue, and airport security.

Following the introduction we boarded a bus and were transported to the boat facility on Shelter Island. There we watched a demonstration by a K-9 unit and were shown the various boats utilized by the Harbor Police. The tour was extremely informative; everyone in attendance thought the event was very worthwhile.

Tour of the San Diego Jail on April 10, 2008

An interesting behind-the-scenes tour of the downtown jail. We saw all phases of the booking process, short-term and longer-term holding areas, emergency response team, and had dinner in the officer's mess.

Tour of the San Diego Regional Public Safety Training Institute on April 12, 2007

Members and guests were allowed to participate in police training exercises and examine sophisticated equipment. Participation included a interactive video shoot/no shoot exercise, using the driving simulator, shooting some pepper balls and bean bags, and for some brave volunteers, testing the taser. The K-9 and SWAT teams also provided excellent demonstrations. We finished with refreshments and pizza. It was a great time!

Tour of the Medical Examiner's Office on September 13, 2006.

We hope to repeat this tour in the Spring of 2010.
