Message from 2016 SDCLEF President Ed Musgrove

Fellow members of the San Diego County Law Enforcement Foundation,

I want to thank the members of the board of directors who entrusted me with the honor of guiding the foundation and representing the interests of the members at large as your president. I came to the Foundation in 2010 as the law enforcement liaison. At that time I was the captain at the sheriff's Santee patrol station. After serving as the liaison for three years, I retired and accepted the offer to fill a vacancy on the board of directors.

This was not my first contact with the Foundation. In 2005 I applied for and was awarded a graduate school scholarship. I completed my master's program and looked for ways to return the kindness and trust shown to me by the Foundation. I encouraged others to apply for scholarships and coordinated the public safety grants for the sheriff's department. When the law enforcement liaison position came open in 2010, I asked the board and Sheriff Gore if I could step and fill the position.

I now find myself honored once again and humbled by the task ahead. Working with our terrific board and officers, we will continue the positive moves to increase membership, offer greater opportunities for our members to interact with local law enforcement and continue to impress upon local law enforcement leadership, the importance of our foundation.

Our board is committed to expanding and improving membership and positive interactions, but it can only work if we all agree to put forth the effort necessary to accomplish this. In the coming months, we will announce to the membership activities we plan to offer to increase that interaction, increase and retain membership and increase community support for our critically important mission. To this end, we need everyone to offer our foundation in a positive light and encourage community members in good standing to apply for membership.

In closing, I ask all members to remain focused on our main objectives of providing graduate school scholarships and public safety grants to local law enforcement. Bottom line is this requires the personal and financial support of all our members. Please remember to renew your membership and encourage your friends and associates to apply.

My best to you all,

Ed

Message to all members of the San Diego County Law Enforcement Foundation

With deep sorrow, but great pride, we wish to inform our members that a donation of $2,000 was made to the family of slain Officer Jonathan DeGuzman. The Board of the SDCLEF thanks all of the members for the support of the Foundation and the courageous Men and Women of Law Enforcement who risk their lives every day to protect the citizens of San Diego County.

The SDCLEF held its third annual Golf Classic on Friday May 20, 2016 at the Riverwalk Golf Club in Mission Valley. It was another fun and successful fundraiser.

Tour of the San Diego Regional Police Academy

Once again, the San Diego County Law Enforcement Foundation hosted a tour of the San Diego Regional Police Academy on Wednesday, May 28, 2014.

Members and guests were allowed to engage in police training exercises and examine sophisticated law enforcement equipment. Participation included an interactive video shoot / no shoot exercise, using the driving simulator, shooting some pepper balls and bean bags following a Less Lethal Weapons demonstration, and for some brave volunteers, testing the Taser. The K-9 and SWAT teams also provided informative demonstrations.

San Diego Central Jail Tour

On September 18th, 2013, the SDCLEF hosted a tour of the San Diego Central Jail facility. The group was welcomed by Sheriff Bill Gore and treated to a delicious dinner in the Officers' Dining Room. For dessert the kitchen staff prepared a cake decorated with the SDCLEF logo. The tour included Intake, Processing, Medical and a Housing Unit visit.

This was one of several special events that the Foundation sponsors throughout the year.

SDCLEF - Raising Money For Good Causes

Providing protection and safety for our families against violence, crime and law breaking citizens is the responsibility of our sheriffs and police officers. Sometimes their ability to do their job efficiently is hindered by lack of proper equipment or training within their department, which is usually the result of budgetary constraints.

The San Diego County Law Enforcement Foundation has funded many different programs and underwritten the cost of new equipment for San Diego County Police and Sheriff's Departments so that these public servants can perform their jobs safely and efficiently. Please see our Scholarships/Grants section for more information.
